Sacha Baron Cohen’s New Show Comes Complete with Conspiracy Website: Truthbrary

Billy Wayne Ruddick Jr. is an InfoWars-style character played by Sacha Baron Cohen in his new Showtime series Who is America?

The fictional Ruddick runs a handy little website (which actually exists) detailing popular conspiracy theories promoted by truthers over the past several decades—everything from the CIA fostering rock and roll music as social control to the moon landing hoax to the Satanic elite running Hollyweird.

In fact, the catalog of conspiracies is quite complete and has apparently been quietly building for some months now. Billy Wayne (apparently he has a PhD) also runs a clever Twitter account at @BillyWRuddick and has a Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Truthbrary/

The website, Truthbrary, appears to be maintained regularly, with new conspiracies still being added:

http://TRUTHBRARY.ORG was created by Dr. Billy Wayne Ruddick for the American people. We must take control of our facts and our truth. #StopFAKENews

Hot Wings in Academia: YouTube Show about Eating Hot Wings “Creates, Maintains & Manipulates Inequitable Gender Hierarchies” & If You Disagree—Misogyny

In June 2018, University of Tulsa Assistant Professor of Media Studies Emily Contois published the following scholarly article: “The Spicy Spectacular: Food, Gender, and Celebrity on Hot Ones.” (Feminist Media Studies. Commentary and Criticism: Food Media Special Issue. Published Online June 7, 2018. DOI: 10.1080/14680777.2018.1478690.) Soon thereafter, Twitter’s New Peer Review, an account that monitors academic publications and calls out studies lacking in solid evidence-based scholarship, shared the contents of the Dr. Contois’ article online. Subsequently, the study was picked up and lampooned by various media outlets, including Breitbart, The Daily Wire and The National Review.

Apparently, Kevin Hart’s appearance on the show is the most popular episode:

The subject of Contois’ article is a popular YouTube show where celebrity guests eat spicy hot wings with differing levels of hot sauce, often tearing up, laughing, swearing, and answering interview questions all at once. It troubled Dr. Contois that in the history of the show, only eleven women have appeared, which amounted to about 10 percent of guests.

Contois’ thesis: “My analysis of Hot Ones informs feminist media studies, as it reveals how this YouTube show creates, maintains and manipulates inequitable gender hierarchies through the interrelated performances of gender, food consumption, and celebrity.”

The author then goes on to throw around assertions that shows like this reinforce power hierarchies because women are supposed to like/eat dainty food with restraint, that female chefs are often depicted preparing comfort food, whereas men eating hot food reinforces the idea that they are tough dudes and fearless risk takers. She says chicken wings and hot foods are masculine coded foods. As evidence, she supports the masculine coding of certain foods by citing another of her articles about Super Bowl food and sports bar fare.

Look, you get the idea. She even questions her own thesis about the show being biased against female guests by saying maybe women don’t want to come on the show because eating and talking are not conventionally feminine but doesn’t really follow up on that.

But here’s the rub: after so much media ridicule of her academic study, she is trolled on Twitter and some of the comments are kind of nasty, while some are just simply saying this cannot pass for scholarship—it’s not good scholarship. So how does Dr. Contois address this criticism of the validity of her research?

She doubles down—she writes an article titled “I Was Trolled – Here’s Why I’m Turning It into a Teaching Opportunity” where she then says it all boils down to misogyny—not bad scholarship. She writes:

It’s both ironic and fitting that my essay happened to be published in Feminist Media Studies in a commentary section on feminism and food media within a special issue on online misogyny.3 In the issue’s introduction, editors Debbie Ging and Eugenia Siapera adopt a cultural rather than legal approach to online gender-based violence, writing:

…misogyny, which may not involve violence but almost always entails some form of harm; either directly in the form of psychological, professional, reputational, or, in some cases, physical harm; or indirectly, in the sense that it makes the internet a less equal, less safe, or less inclusive space for women and girls.

I Was Trolled – Here’s Why I’m Turning It into a Teaching Opportunity

She adds:

I’m very relieved I haven’t faced real threats, yet, but many folks attacked by online misogyny do. Amanda Hess’s 2014 essay, “Why Women Aren’t Welcome on the Internet” and Amnesty International’s 2018 report on Twitter both document such occurrences. A national UK study published in 2017 offers additional evidence and explores “online abuse of this kind as an extension of offline gender relations.”

Her rebuttal never addresses any weaknesses in her academic paper. It doesn’t look at shows like Fear Factor, where both men and women ate yucky stuff or any other YouTube hot stuff challenges. It just doesn’t qualify any of the conclusions she draws. It simply condemns critics as being misogynists who like to be mean to women online—people she even classifies as “trolls,” not academic scholars or critics in their own right, so why pay them any mind?

How about we just stick to science and not pull the misogyny card, feminists? It dismisses all rational debate and silences critics over and over again and reinforces the idea that women are just too darn fragile to handle legitimate criticism or defend their work if they believe it to be valid. Playing the misogyny card and complaining about mean old trolls just isn’t going to cut it anymore. Evidence based studies matter–I for one want my work to be judged on merit–and I don’t plan to act like a delicate flower when I make a mistake.

By the way, my Master’s Degree was from the University of Tulsa, and it is a good school. This is a bad look.

Former Slaves, Known as Creek Freedmen, Sue for Reinstatement as Creek Citizens with Full Benefits

A lawsuit filed in Federal Court on July 20, 2018, names defendants RYAN ZINKE, Secretary of the United States Department of the Interior; UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR; and JAMES FLOYD, Principal Chief of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, in His Official Capacity.

According to court documents, plaintiffs are individuals and a collection of persons whose direct lineal ancestors were listed on the final Dawes Rolls of 1906 as Creek Nation Freedmen (“Creek Freedmen” or “Freedmen”) and citizens of the Muscogee Creek Nation (“MCN” or “Creek Nation”). Plaintiffs include descendants of (1) individuals who were enslaved by MCN, (2) Creeks of “African Descent,” (3) free “Africans” living as citizens of the Creek Nation, and/or (4) “mixed blood” Creek Nation citizens who were listed as Creek Freedmen on the Dawes Rolls (collectively “Descendants” or “Creek Freedmen Descendants”).

In 1866, the Creek Treaty between the United States and the MCN, the Freedmen and Freedmen Descendants, stated that regardless of their “blood” status “shall have and enjoy all the rights and privileges of native citizens” of the MCN.

On or about August 18, 1975, the MCN through its National Council, submitted to

DOI a draft constitution (“Draft Constitution”) that, among other things, contained express provisions which (1) stripped individuals on the 1906 Creek Freedmen Rolls and their then-living lineal descendants of their MCN citizenship; and (2) prevented the unborn lineal descendants of individuals who were enrolled on the 1906 Creek Freedmen Rolls from becoming citizens of MCN.

On October 29, 1977, then-MCN Principal Chief Claud Cox, a proponent of the new constitution, admitted that one of the express goals of the Draft Constitution was to strip Freedmen and Creek Freedmen Descendants of their MCN citizenship and rights stating:

“When you go back to the old [1867] Constitution, you are licked before you start; because it doesn’t talk about Indians, it talks about CITIZENS of the CREEK NATION. When you got down to the Allotment time, there were more that was non-Indians or half-blood or less, who outnumbered the full blood, all of these totaled about 11,000, and there were only 18,000 on the entire Roll; so there was only 9,000 above One-half blood. That’s the reason, they lost control; the FULLBLOOD lost control. That’s what we’re fighting, this blood quantum, trying to get back and let the people control because under the old Constitution, you’ve lost before you ever started. There were three FREEDMAN bands that would outnumber you today as citizens. So if we want to keep the INDIAN in control we’ve got to take a good look at this thing and get us a Constitution that will keep the Creek Indian in Control.” (MCN National Council Minutes, October 29, 1977)

Upon the dubious ratification of the 1979 Constitution, and with DOI’s approval, the MCN illegally declared that all Freedmen were not entitled to MCN citizenship and would no longer be recognized or allowed to be citizens of MCN. The MCN also began to summarily deny Creek Freedmen and their Descendants applications for citizenship.

Between 1979 to the present, eligible Freedmen and Creek Freedmen Descendants applied for MCN citizenships and were summarily denied. Oftentimes Freedmen applicants would be informed of their denial via a form letter from the Citizenship Board, which would include some version of the following language taken from a May 31, 2002 letter from MCN to a Creek Freedmen applicant:

We are returning your letter and any other documents submitted for enrollment into the Muscogee (Creek) Nation because in checking the Dawes Commission Rolls, your ancestors were enrolled on the Creek Freedmen Rolls. If you will note from the copy you submitted there is no blood quantum listed because they are not Creek by Blood. When slavery was abolished following the Civil War, Treaties were negotiated with the Five-Civilized Tribes; the Choctaw, Cherokee, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole Nations. The treaties conferred citizenship in the tribes on the negroes who had been held in slavery by the tribes. Such citizens were referred to as ‘Freedmen.’

The document is an interesting read and a mini-history lesson, encompassing references to the Civil War, the Trail of Tears and other significant events in American history. The full complaint may be found here:

Duping Delight, Cheater’s High, Sneaky Thrills: When Duping Becomes an Aphrodisiac

Spouses of serial cheaters have observed anecdotally that cheating isn’t always just about sex—it’s often combined with a thrill of secrecy and risk, forbidden and illicit encounters and finding pleasure in manipulative deceit. Some of the cheaters seem to really get off on the thrill of duping their significant others.

Paul Ekman, a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, served two years as First Lieutenant and chief psychologist at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Later, he worked as a professor of psychology at the UCSF medical school. In 1967, Dr. Ekman began to study deception. His 1992 book Telling Lies prompted national and regional law enforcement groups to ask for help.

In Telling Lies, Ekman coined the term “duping delight.” Ekman notes, “Lying can also produce positive feelings. The lie may be viewed as an accomplishment, which feels good. The liar may feel excitement, either when anticipating the challenge or during the very moment of lying, when success is not yet certain. Afterward there may be the pleasure that comes with relief, pride in the achievement, or feelings of smug contempt toward the target. Duping delight refers to all or any of these feelings that can, if not concealed, betray the deceit.”

A wife found this text message from her cheating husband to his affair partner:

“Remember me trying to talk every night with (my wife) just inches away? I just knew I was gonna be caught. If she had seen some of those early ones!!!! Oooh. Juicy.” (lots of heart emojis)

Ekman observes that “duping delight” can be made even more delicious if the liar has an audience of some sort—someone who he or she can brag to about his accomplishments.

Ekman writes, “The presence of others who know what is going on can also increase the likelihood of duping delight. The audience need not be present, as long as it is attentive and appreciative.”

From a spouse: “I don’t know how many people actually knew about my husband’s final exit affair. I know of at least one—yet another woman—who he was clearly trying to impress with his skillful deceit and probably trying to also signal his imagined sexual prowess and his availability. He would message her on his special burner phone and keep her up to date on his love affair. He would also send her suggestive messages like ‘wouldn’t it be funny if we ended up together after all these years?’”

Perhaps most troubling of all, deceiving the person who you have spent years telling he or she can trust you, rely on you, feel safe and secure with you—may be the most thrilling accomplishment of all. “Duping a totally trusting victim may be especially delicious, indulging enjoyable feelings of contempt,” observes Ekman.

A spouse: “My husband staged a ‘fake break-up’ with his ‘girlfriend’ (not exactly a girl–she was almost eligible for Medicare) in a text he knew I would see. He said he was ending his affair and going to concentrate on mending his ways and working on his marriage. The “girl”friend was in on the deception (the thrill of humiliating another woman got her off too) and afterwards the girlfriend immediately messaged him on Facebook, saying she was going to cost him a lot more money to maintain than I was. These two cheaters found pleasure in deceiving me, in degrading me, humiliating me. And my husband of more than 30 years, the father of my children, did not care that she derided me or hurt me. He did not try to shield me from her cruelty as well as his own. It’s hard to understand the privilege they feel and the sexual excitement they feel in manipulating and exploiting another human. In my darker moments, I imagine them laughing about how clever that little ploy must have made them feel, how superior, how in control, all at my expense. I will never understand how they live with themselves. I guess I don’t really want to understand—I don’t even want to try and place myself in that mindset. And, to be honest, it wasn’t just me they enjoyed duping. They also celebrated getting one over on her husband and her ex-boyfriend (a previous affair partner she claimed she was in the process of dumping.) She would screenshot her other boyfriend’s sad text messages and send them to my husband and they would share snide, superior comments about what a sad, sloppy drunk he was.”

In 2013, a study was released which backed up Ekman’s theory of the “duping delight.

Titled “The Cheater’s High: The Unexpected Affective Benefits of Unethical Behavior,” researchers found that cheaters experience a certain giddiness associated with the thrill of getting away with something, particularly if it was forbidden. When subjects successfully got away with unethical behavior, they felt a sense of cleverness, accomplishment, advantage and control. The cheaters took pride in bypassing rules and experienced what might be called a “sneaky thrill.”

Why do some women choose to stay with cheating husbands?

Teaching Evolution Montessori Style: A Timeline of the Universe

Maria Montessori devised certain grand lessons that were impressionistic in nature—that is, the lesson is not meant to nail down specifics, but to allow a child to see the enormity of the universe and the child’s place within that universe.

I happened to run across a lesson I did with my Montessori students—ages 9 to 12—which was made ultimately made into a 20-foot long properly scaled strip depicting the origin of our universe from the Big Bang right up until just before humans began to inhabit the earth.

Isn’t the art magnificent?

May’s government has been keen to strike up a close relationship with the Trump administration despite his erratic behaviour, in part because of Britain’s desire, post-Brexit, to strike a swift trade deal with the world’s largest economy. So: as a result: he’ll get a quiet cup of tea and slither into Britain in July! Let’s party and send a message that blowhards in a time of Wind rush, Brexit and general decay are not welcome in Wales. See you around six! Tequila Trump Masks Foreign Glitter Encouraged

Donald Trump is now reported to be coming to Britian in July – and we are going to organise a massive national demonstration against his politics of racism, war, sexism and hate. This could be a march of millions. 4% of the population – or around 2 million people have said that they would “definitely” take part in protests against the visit. In Dundee we are holding a local protest on Friday 13th at 5pm. This demonstration isn’t just about Trump. The treatment of the Windrush generation has highlighted the British elite’s disgraceful record of racism and bigotry. This is a fight against our own “hostile environment” as well as the American government. The Stop Trump Coalition is a network of grassroots campaigns, unions, NGOs and politicians initiated by journalist Owen Jones in February 2017. Stand Up to Trump includes a range of campaigns against war, austerity and racism, as well as public figures who have pledged to mobilise against a Trump visit. Both organisations have come together for a one-off national demonstration under the banner of Together Against Trump. A mobilising network for the demonstration – with local contact points in every part of the country – will spring into action as soon as a date is announced, organising local actions and coaches to London. Shaista Aziz, from the Stop Trump Coalition, said: “Donald Trump and Theresa May are running scared of protest. Last year. hundreds of thousands took to the streets at barely a day’s notice in disgust at Trump’s Muslim Ban. If Trump actually comes to London, we could be looking at a march of millions. This won’t just be a movement against the President’s visit – it will become a movement against racism, anti-migrant bigotry, sexism, transphobia and far right politics in the UK” “The Windrush scandal has shown this isn’t just about Trump. It’s also about Tory Britain. Our protest is an opportunity for millions to say, ‘enough is enough’.” Maz Saleem, from Stand Up to Trump, said: “Donald Trump is an open racist and sexist, a volatile and dangerous character who seems set on taking the West into further wars. Together we will put on a massive united show of opposition to him if Theresa May goes ahead with plans for a visit.” — This Dundee protest is timed to coincide with the finishing rally at the Together Against Trump National Demo in London on the same day. https://www.facebook.com/events/176581893155207/?ti=cl We also encourage people to support other anti-tumour protests wherever they are including the simultaneous Dump Trump demo in Glasgow: https://www.facebook.com/events/1770997519643238/?ti=cl and the Scotland United Against Trump protest in Edinburgh on Saturday 14th July https://www.facebook.com/events/628616174183456/?ti=cl Stop Trump’s website can be viewed here: https://www.stoptrump.org.uk/who-we-are/ Stand up to Trump’s website can be viewed here: http://standuptotrump.uk

Donald Trump will be arriving in London on the evening of Thursday 12th July and staying at Winfield House, the US Ambassador’s residence in Regents Park. Join us at 5:30pm at Hanover Gate – the entrance to Regents Park right next to London Central Mosque on Park Road – and we will protest right on the boundary of Winfield House where we know Trump will be able to hear us. Ahead of the main demonstration on Friday, we want to create a wall of sound to give him the (un)welcome he deserves. Bring your megaphones, whistles, pots and pans and anything else you can make noise with! Because of closures to the Outer Circle, we recommend coming to Baker Street and walking up Park Road or alternatively using bus routes 13, 113 or 274 and alighting at Alpha Close (stop LA)/Park Road Lords Cricket Ground (stop N). This protest has been called by Together Against Trump.

[[[ FRIDAY 13 July : NATIONAL Demonstration – Together Against Trump: national demo – book the day off work! >>> COACH TICKETS (leave 9am): tinyurl.com/briztrump ]]] Theresa May has pressed ahead with the visit of US President Donald Trump, due to take place on July 13th. This ignores the views of millions of British people, and many thousands of Bristolians (see the Bristol Stands Up To Trump : Protest his visit to the UK event, for which dates are unable to be corrected), who believe racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism, sexism, misogyny, homophobia, war-mongering, climate change denial, attacks on human rights or policies that will deepen poverty and inequality should not be celebrated by our government. Furthermore, the forcible separation of migrant families is utterly inhumane and marks a new low for Trump’s administration. When Trump visits the eyes of the world will be on London and the UK to see how the British people react. So it is crucial for us to ensure that Trump is met by the biggest protests possible. We call for a Bristol march on the eve of his visit on Thursday July 12th at 5pm. Many other UK cities are planning to do likewise. We intend to write to both Mayor Marvin Rees and Lord Mayor Cleo Lake to ask them to address the protest. We also then urge the widest possible support from Bristol for the national demonstration on Friday July 13th in London, for which coaches will be leaving Bristol at 9am. Bristol is a city renowned for its celebration of diversity and support for peace and for human and environmental rights. For all these reasons we will endeavour to make sure that our city stands at the forefront of opposition to Trump. Bristol Stand Up to Trump supporters, who have signed a letter similar to the above, include: – Bristol People’s Assembly – Bristol Stop the War Coalition – Stand up to Racism Bristol – Bristol Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament – Bristol Palestine Solidarity Campaign – Councillor Afzal Shah (Easton) – Councillor Harriet Bradley (Brislington West) – Councillor Eleanor Combley (Bishopston and Ashley Down) – Councillor Paul Goggin (Hartcliffe and Withywood) – Councillor Charlie Bolton (Southville) – Councillor Carla Denyer (Clifton Down) – Professor Tariq Madood (University of Bristol – in personal capacity) – Rob Wotherspoon, Bristol Communication Workers Union – Ras D Judah Adunbi – Carly Lightbown, organiser of Bristol’s Women’s March in January 2017 – Richard Capps, PCS Union Regional Chair (personal capacity) – Saba Hussain, sociologist – Kamal Mohamed, anti-racism campaigner, PhD researcher and refugee – Naz Massoumi, film and television lecturer – Neema Begum, PhD researcher and teacher at UoB (personal capacity) – National Education Union North Somerset Branch

Join Labour Students as we protest the visit of Donald Trump to the UK. This vile POTUS needs no introduction. His misogyny, racism and bigotry are well known, we know that such views are in no way what Britain values in a leader or a friend. Theresa May should not have given him an invitation, thus we will march to show that he and his views are not welcome. Our protest begins outside the BBC building, Portland Place. Well shall then march across Central London, where we will congregate in Trafalgar Square from 17:00-19:00. Any questions message us on Facebook or Twitter, alternatively email us at labourstudents@labour.org.uk

Coach leaves The Hubs, Paternoster Row at 9am Coach tickets £10 & £20 ***ASSEMBLE FOR MARCH 2PM BBC PORTLAND PLACE, W1A 1AA*** ***RALLY 5PM TRAFALGAR SQUARE*** Donald Trump is now reported to be coming to Britain in July – and we are going to organise a massive national demonstration against his politics of racism, war, sexism and hate. This could be a march of millions. 4% of the population – or around 2 million people have said that they would “definitely” take part in protests against the visit. Together we will put on a massive united show of opposition to him if Theresa May goes ahead with plans for a visit.” Stop Trump’s website can be viewed here: https://www.stoptrump.org.uk/who-we-are/ Stand up to Trump’s website can be viewed here: http://standuptotrump.uk

Take the opportunity to show Trump what a diverse, tolerant and humorous (see accompanying poster designing event) group we are. Details are to be confirmed but hopefully we’ll travel up to London by train with Caroline and join a Green Bloc from across the UK. PLEASE KEEP AN EYE ON THIS EVENT FOR UPDATES! Family friendly march for those that can’t get to London. Assemble outside ROYALS at 2pm (this may change to a bit later, see poll in discussion). We’ll set of about 2.30pm, heading up the High Street to finish outside the ODEON SOUTHEND where we might have a few speakers. NB: Proposed time is to tie in with London. HOWEVER, as this has been suggested as being suitable for families – with kids at school – we might move the start time. This is to be a peaceful protest exercising our democratic right to let local decision makers know how we feel about letting this dangerous, hate-mongering, racist, misogynistic man into our country. We particularly encourage families to take part in solidarity with those families recently torn asunder by Trump’s policies. Get making those banners!

Donald Trump will be making his visit to Britain on July 13th, 2018. As many Britons, expats and others will make it known that he and his hatred is unwelcome in Great Britain. Thousands upon thousands are expected to take to the streets of London that day to send the unequivocal message that Britain will not tolerate his hate filled rhetoric and dangerous policy. In about two weeks time, after we have a count of the number of interested in attending, I will reach out to London hotels for pricing overnight. I would like to get as many of my likeminded British mates involved as possible to show this asshole that Great Britain is GREAT, and will stand up to the likes of this bigoted man and his policies of hate and discrimination. Who’s with us? Time to march! Time for Britain to shine bright on the world stage! 💪 🇬🇧

Grassroots organisations, societies and collaborations across Scotland have come together to protest against the Trump administration’s horrific actions against immigrant children and families. On the 13th July, Trump is set to make a visit to the UK. We cannot allow this visit to be made without a degree of opposition. We encourage as many students as possible to participate. “Between October 1, 2017 and May 31, 2018, at least 2,700 children have been split from their parents. 1,995 of them were separated over the last six weeks of that window – April 18 to May 31 – indicating that at present, an average of 45 children are being taken from their parents each day” Dara Lind, Vox article, 15/06/2018 The separation of children from their parents by the Trump administration is only the latest and most obvious of examples of creeping fascism happening on a grand scale in the United States. We, as internationalists, stand shoulder to shoulder with these separated families. Join us on our protest from City Square outside the Caird Hall at 5pm, to coincide with several other similar protests.

BRIDPORT IS REPRESENTING AT THE NATIONAL ANTI TRUMP PROTEST IN LONDON ON FRIDAY 13th JULY … We’ve organised a minibus to join the ‘Festival of Love’ protesting Trump’s visit to England, our government’s friendship with him and everything he stands for. It’s looking to be a historic event. Our one rule is that we go to this protest peacefully, aside from that all points of view and political persuasions are welcome. That said, pro-trump people will not be guaranteed a space on the bus. We’ll be leaving at about 7am and returning in the evening, timings to be confirmed. Stay tuned also for protest prep information including general safety advice for the novice activist, music and sound making ideas and general logistical stuff. Also, keep your eyes peeled for a protest placard making session later on in the week, where we’ll whip up some jaw dropping activist material, plan a minibus playlist and generally hype ourselves up. SEATS COST £16 This covers vehicle rental, petrol, parking and a fee for the driver. Currently there are 17 seats available, message us for bank details. The first 17 to pay Megan will be guaranteed a place. If numbers keep increasing beyond 17 we’ll go ahead and hire another vehicle, nothing can stop us. Seats are non refundable. If you cannot make it on the day you can find someone else for your seat but we won’t be able to return the cost. However, if we don’t fill the minibus the trip won’t happen and you will be refunded then. We are only providing transport to this event and you partake in this protest at your own risk. You will be completely responsible for yourselves in London and aside from returning back to the minibus at the correct time, you will be free to go where you want and do what you will. We hope you’re as excited as we are! x

Donald Trump is coming to Britain on Friday 13 July and his visit will be met by mass protests. He is fast becoming the world’s #1 racist and is inspiring far-right forces here in Britain. From the Muslim ban to smearing Mexicans as rapists, he has consistently whipped up Islamophobia, hate and division. His out spoken sexism, homophobia and transphobia boosts the confidence of bigots around the world. But this isn’t just about Trump. The treatment of the Windrush generation – and the constant scapegoating of migrants and refugees – has highlighted the British elite’s disgraceful racist record. This is a fight against our own ‘hostile environment’ as well as that promoted by the US government. This summer… Donald Trump is… ‘A nightmare on any street’ President Trump is visiting the UK from 12-16 July. Since coming to office Trump has ordered children to be torn apart from their parents at the US border. He’s stoked tensions in the Middle East by naming Jerusalem the capital of Israel. He’s even pulled out of the UN Human Rights Council. Not to mention his harmful policies on refugees, women’s rights and climate change. He feeds off division, bigotry and fear. So we need to put on our biggest show of solidarity to stand up against his hate. Join us on July 13 in London for a day of joyful noise and action, as we stand together in celebration of all the things Trump hates most: our incredible diversity and commitment to human rights for all! Jul 13, 9 AM · Oxford Stand Up To Trump

Despite mass opposition to Trump’s politics of racism, Islamophobia and antisemitism, sexism, war, bigotry and climate change denial, he is being welcomed to the UK by Prime Minister Theresa May on July 13th. We intend to protest his reception by Theresa May at Chequers before going on to the national demonstration. Provisional plan is to get to Chequers for 10 am, protest and then make it to the protest inLondon by 2pm. Trump’s election as US President has given confidence to racists, sexists and bigots around the world. His rhetoric against Korea, Iran and Russia, and his moving of the US Embassy to Jerusalem has stoked up the threat of war, including nuclear war, in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Climate change is an increasing threat to the whole of humanity, yet Trump has set back meaningful action to limit the threat of abrupt climate change. Trump represents a super rich elite that puts profit before people, who want to shape the world to enrich themselves further no matter what the cost to humanity and the planet. By inviting Trump to visit Theresa May is endorsing Trump’s politics. This should come as no surprise. May has consistently supported austerity Trump’s drive to war, and her government has been exposed as deeply racist. Mass protests on July 13 will send a clear message to Trump and May that we are prepared to fight for equal rights for all oppressed groups, for peace, economic justice and environmental sustainability.

July 13th, 2016 – I turned 21, did anyone care? NO! Because it was was also the day that David Cameron resigned as prime minister, and was succeeded by Theresa May. July 13th, 2017 – I turned 22, did anyone care? NO!* Because all people were talking about was the most recent general election and Brexit. July 13th, 2018 – I will be turning 23, will anyone care?… This year on Friday the 13th, Donald Trump will be making his first official state visit to the UK as the 45th President of the United States. I for one, am done with conservative politics upstaging the day of my birth. So please join me in protesting the arrival of the racist, sexist, transphobic and homophobic “leader of the free world” in the UK. Let’s show him a Friday the 13th he won’t forget. Please invite and share with your friends, neighbours, and lovers. Let’s get this as big as possible. Dress code: I will be in drag, you are most welcome to come dressed however you feel most comfortable or powerful at such a shindig. In lieu of birthday cards please bring banners and placards. More details to follow, but the plan is to join up with the other protesters on the day (in particular the ‘Drag Protest Against Trump UK Visit’ group: https://www.facebook.com/events/2083878568520178/ ). I’ll be bringing a cake, but please bring your own napkins and forks, as I may not have enough to go around. After the protest, we can all go to spoons for some B-Day woo-woos and then we can all catch The Incredibles 2 (and yes, we can all go to Tesco before to stock up on sweets because we all know how expensive cinema popcorn is). *In fairness, Taylor Swift did care about me turning 22, I hear she was feeling it.

Basketball Matches Held in Pyongyang; Friendly Inter-Korean Games First Since 2003

PYONGYANG/SEOUL, July 4 (Joint Press Corps-Yonhap) — South and North Korean basketball players played two friendly matches in Pyongyang on Wednesday amid a thaw in inter-Korean relations.

The games were played in the afternoon at Ryugyong Chung Ju-yung Gymnasium between a “peace” team and a “prosperity” team made up of a mixture of North and South Korean players. The women’s teams played first followed by the men’s. They were part of four planned games scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

The women’s “prosperity” team managed to win 103-102. Ro Suk-yong of the North was key to the victory, scoring 18 points.

The men’s game was tied at 102-102. With less than a second left on the clock, North Korea’s Choe Sung-ho hit a game-tying three-pointer for the “prosperity” team. Another North Korean Won Yun-sik, meanwhile, had the game-high 17 points for “peace” team.

This is the fourth time that the two Koreas have held friendly basketball matches. The last such games were played in October 2003.

The event was arranged after high-level officials from the two Koreas met in June to discuss sports exchanges in line with the spirit of the April 27 summit, where their leaders promised to expand cross-border exchanges and contacts.

Inter-Korean relations have been thawing since early this year when the North sent athletes to the PyeongChang Winter Olympics hosted by the South.

The rapprochement led to summit meetings between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in April and May.

The North’s leader, known to be an avid fan of basketball, was not seen at the gymnasium. It is unclear whether he will attend the other planned matches.

The delegation is to return home on Friday.
